Councillors grant Makandiwa’s church nod

chapel by the United  Family International Church led by Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa.
Zengeza East legislator Mr Alexio Musundire recently filed an application seeking to stop the construction on a piece of land allocated to UFIC.
The councillors yesterday said it was not the duty of the MDC-T legislator to supervise council activities.

Chitungwiza special interest councillor, Retired Major Brighton Chirongwe, said the church was building the chapel on the basis of a council resolution.
“There has been a lot of noise despite the case being before the courts.

“The decision was done above board and it is not the duty of an MP to supervise council operations.
“Instead of fighting against developmental projects, he should be in Parliament concentrating on how the country can find ways of generating revenue for the benefit of the people,” he said.
“The most surprising thing is councillors from his camp also gave the nod to the church project after realising the good a church can bring to any society,” he said.

Ward 20 Councillor Tichaona Chapfika, concurred saying UFIC was “blessed” through council.
He said there was no logic in denying UFIC land because churches were instrumental in uniting people.

“Instead of accounting how he spent the Constituency Developmental Fund, he is busy trying to stop development in the constituency,” Chapfika said.
“A church is a platform which can be used to unite people and considering that Makandiwa is a crowd puller, we can also take that opportunity to unite people,” he said.

Clr Chapfika said churches had a primary function of propagating the good news gospel and Christian principles, exercising healing and preaching.
UFIC has so far spent in excess of US$1 million on the construction and millions more are yet to be spent to complete the structure.

The project has also created employment for many youths in the area.
In his court application, Mr Musundire is also seeking to stop businessman, Mr Frederick Mabamba, from building tuckshops in the same area.

Recently the High Court dismissed Mr Musundire’s application as not urgent.
This paves the way for the church to continue building until the case is heard as a normal one.
