The countdown has begun to the All Africa Team Golf Championships, set to tee off at the Bulawayo Golf Club on October 27.

This prestigious tournament, which runs until November 2, will bring together 20 nations from across the continent, each vying for golfing glory.

A five-man Zimbabwe team which is comprised of Tanaka Chatora, Vincent Chidambazina, Kelvin Muchenje, Keegan Shutt and
Micheal Wallace Michael and coached by seasoned pro, Simon Murungweni was unveiled to Harare media by the Zimbawe Golf Association (ZGA) this Wednesday.

Of the five players who have been selected, one of them is going to be a none-playing captain and that will be announced in due course as will be the identity of the team captain.

ZGA vice-president and national team selection committee chairperson Munodawafa Mutopo believes the team has what it takes to win the event.

“The guys we have selected have played within and outside the borders of Zimbabwe and have been able to perform very well so we are confident they will win it this time. We are confident that the guys we have announced will be able to deliver the goods and bring or retain the trophy in Zimbabwe and not allow it to go elsewhere,” he said.

The championships will feature teams of four golfers from each country, competing in a strokeplay format. Zimbabwe’s team is eager to make a strong impression on home soil.

“These players that have been selected are obviously on WAGR [World Amateur Golf Rankings] and also on our local order of merit rankings. They have played very well in the country. This tournament is a 100m sprint and they have to perform consistently from the first day to the end, scoring under par scores,” Mutupo added.

“The tournament will take place at Bulawayo Golf Club and our plan is to take the team there on October 23 so that they get to know the course. I know they have played there before and have done well, but it’s important that they get time on the course. They will be there until the tournament begins,” Mutupo said.

ZGA president, Martin Chikwanha, also expressed excitement at hosting the championships.

“We’re thrilled to welcome the best golfers from Africa to Bulawayo. Our team has worked tirelessly to ensure the course is in top condition.”

Bulawayo Golf Club, one of Zimbabwe’s oldest and most scenic courses, promises to provide a challenging yet scenic backdrop for the competition.

“Preparations are on track,” said Chikwanha.

“We’re looking forward to showcasing our city’s hospitality and golfing prowess.”

“We’re under no illusion – the competition will be fierce,” said Chikwanha.

“But we’re confident in our abilities and ready to give it our all.”

The All Africa Team Golf Championships promise to deliver world-class golf, thrilling spectators and showcasing the best of African talent.
