NEW: Three die in mining accident in Mutare

THREE artisanal miners died after a mining shaft collapsed at Plot 55 Premier Central in Mutare on Monday afternoon.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the incident, which occurred at around 4.30pm.

According to police, the three miners were working inside a mining shaft approximately 20 metres deep when it collapsed, trapping them underground.

“The ZRP confirms a fatal mining accident which occurred on 24/08/26, at around 4.30 pm at Plot 55 Premier Central, Mutare,” police said in a statement.

“Three artisanal miners were killed when a mining shaft, approximately 20 metres deep, collapsed while they were working inside it.”
