A couple lost R15 000 and three cellphones to five armed robbers who also shot and seriously injured the husband in the stomach after raiding their home in Ngundu on Monday night.
Police have since launched a manhunt for the suspects.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the victim was shot with an unidentified gun.
“Police in Masvingo are appealing for information, which may assist in the investigation of a robbery case in which five unidentified suspects attacked a couple and stole R15 000 cash as well as three cellphones at a homestead at Shongamiti residential area, Ngundu on October 18, 2021.
“One of the suspects shot the complainant on the abdomen with an unidentified firearm,” he said.
Meanwhile, police in Beitbridge arrested one Samuel Netsanda (39) in connection with a case of robbery which occurred on May 25, 2021 at Makhapile Village in the border town.
The suspect and his three other accomplices who are remanded in custody at Beitbridge Remand Prison, robbed a complainant of a Toyota Hiace vehicle and groceries valued at US$13 000.
In a related incident, a 33-year-old Zvishavane habitual thief who was recently arrested for a spate of robberies and unlawful entry and theft cases has been sentenced to an effective five-years after being found guilty of 20 counts he committed.
Peter Mugadza had initially been sentenced to 84 months in prison by a Zvishavane Magistrate but 12 months were suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour. Asst Comm Nyathi confirmed the developments in a statement.
“On October 18, 2021, Peter Mugadza aged 33 who was arrested by the police in connection with a spate of robbery and unlawful entry into premises and theft cases was sentenced to 84 months’ imprisonment at Zvishavane Magistrate court.
“The suspect targeted to steal cellphones and cash between January and July 2021 in and around Zvishavane,” he said.
The court heard that Mugadza on numerous occasions unlawfully entered into various homes in Zvishavane where he stole various property including cellphones.
Police in Bulawayo are also appealing for information which may lead to the arrest of a suspect only identified as Phiri who is said to residing along Croach Road in Matsheumhlope. Phiri is wanted in connection with a case of theft of a Toyota Harrier vehicle, which occurred on Saturday at Manningdale Suburb, Bulawayo. The vehicle was recovered the following day dumped along Chandlier Road near Plot 2 Kensington, Bulawayo.
It was discovered that a car battery, spare wheel and car radio had been stolen from the vehicle.
