A MZANSI Express driver who allegedly assaulted his wife after being caught cheating and told a court that he is addicted to sex, absconded court yesterday.
A warrant for his arrest has been issued.

Busani Gumbo (44) defaulted court after he was remanded out of custody on Thursday pending sentencing.

He was accused of throttling and assaulting his wife, Ms Sandra Masuku, after she insisted on going with him to confront the woman he was having an extra-marital affair with.

Gumbo on Thursday told Western Commonage magistrate Mr Lungile Ncube that he cheated on his wife because he could not cope without satisfaction from a woman.

“My wife has been refusing to have sex with me for quite some time that is why I decided to find someone else to satisfy me. I do not think straight if I don’t get the services of a woman. I am human and I have feelings too so I need someone to be intimate with,” he said.

The court heard that Gumbo assaulted and throttled his wife while she was driving to Cowdray Park suburb where his girlfriend lives.

Gumbo pleaded guilty to a physical abuse charge but failed to turn up for his sentence yesterday.

“I throttled her because I wanted my car keys. I didn’t know where she was taking me and I did not want to go that is why I wanted my keys. I couldn’t just go wherever she wanted to take me,” he said.

In a warned and cautioned statement, Ms Masuku said her husband initially agreed to go with her because he thought they were going to Luveve but refused to go when he learnt they were going to Cowdray Park.

She said Gumbo started assaulting her when she demanded a reason for his refusal to go to Cowdray Park.

“I asked him the reason why he refused to go and he started assaulting me with fists and strangulated me. I was rescued by a Honda Fit driver who was passing by,” Ms Masuku said.
