Court reserves ruling on three MDC-T activists

THE High Court has reserved ruling on a fresh bail application by three MDC-T activists, part of the 29 Glen View residents in Harare who were accused of killing police Inspector Petros Mutedza.
Tungamirai Madzokere, Yvonne Musarurwa and Last Maengahama remained in remand prison when 21 others were discharged at the close of the State’s case last year.

One of the suspects died before the trial ended.
Four others, who are yet to be put to their defence together with the trio, were granted bail end of last year.
The three filed a bail application arguing that a long time had lapsed since the trial adjourned and they now seek their freedom.
Justice Chinembiri Bhunu on Tuesday reserved the bail ruling after hearing arguments from both parties.

Mr Edmore Nyazamba from the National Prosecuting Authority represented the State while Ms Beatrice Mtetwa of Mtetwa and Nyambirai acted for the trio.

The same court also postponed the trial of the seven suspects to February 24 when their defence case is expected to open.
The seven are being charged with killing Insp Mutedza on May 29, 2011 at Glen View 3 Shopping Centre.

He had been deployed to maintain peace and order in Glen View while leading a police reaction group.
On the fateful day, MDC-T youths were illegally gathered at Glen View 4 Shopping Centre where they were celebrating their T-Shirt visibility day.

Glen View police officers went and dispersed the youths. They proceeded to Glen View 3 shops where they gathered at Munyarari Bar. Police called for reinforcements and Insp Mutedza drove to Glen View with his team.

They teamed up with some officers at Glen View Police Station and they drove to Munyarari Bar where the youths were gathered. While trying to disperse the crowd, Inspector Mutedza was stoned to death.
