MINISTER of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation, Kirsty Coventry, says she is proud of the creative sector in this country.
She was addressing guests at the 21st National Arts Merit Awards ceremony held over the weekend at the HICC.
Speaking at the beginning of the ceremony, Minister Coventry hailed artists for their spirited efforts in fighting drug abuse among young people.
“As the Ministry, you really made me proud by writing our own stories through different artistic styles.
“That is the Ministry’s push this year as we want Zimbabweans to tell our stories, not other people to come and tell the story for us.
“We want to unite our nation through our artists and creative culture industries and our sports.
“The way everyone has come together and made this event great brings joy to my heart and it literally gives me chills.
“This made me ecstatic to be here witnessing greatness.”
She said artists deserved to be rewarded for their hard work.
“To artists, thank you for your incredible work.
“You speak, you dream then deliver on it whether through music, comedy, sculpting or painting.
“I also want to thank each and every young artist as they have helped in fighting drug abuse, these young artists have been inspiring the youths showing them that there is more to life than doing drugs.
“We should believe in Zimbabwe and let’s develop the country together. Congratulations to nominees and winners.
“The ministry will push for more platforms for you to showcase your talents,” she added.
