Covid-19 cases now over 2 000

THE number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Zimbabwe on Wednesday breached the 2000 mark after the country recorded 214 new cases.

According to statistics released by the Ministry of Health and Child Care, Bulawayo remains the epicentre of the pandemic with the city recording 47 new cases, bringing its total to 593.

“214 cases tested positive for Covid-19 today (Wednesday). These include returnees from South Africa (123), Zambia (one) and 90 local cases who are isolated.

“15 of the local cases are contacts of known confirmed cases. Investigations are underway to establish the source of infection of the other 75 cases. New recoveries were reported by Matabeleland South (19) and Mashonaland East Province (three),” said the Ministry.

The latest statistics puts the total number of positive cases since  20 March 2020 at  2 034, recovered 510, active cases 1 498 and 26 deaths.
