Over 230 000 Zimbabweans who were living outside the country have returned home due to the fallout of the coronavirus in their host countries, latest statistics from the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) show.
The IOM and its partners are working to support Zimbabwe in strengthening capacities for public health measures at points of entry (PoEs) and to provide critical services to returning migrants.
In a statement, the IOM said since March 2020, the number of returnees has reached 230 330 as of May 3, 2021.
The IOM added: “Between the 27th of April and the 3rd of May, 5 646 entries were received through the four key points of entries (PoEs) – Beitbridge, Chirundu, Forbes and Plumtree.”
Movements that were observed at the four entry points during the week of April 27 to May 3, 2021 represented a daily average of 837 movements.
