Covid-19: Global deaths now over 2,4 million

Covid -19 continues to stalk the globe. A total of 2 470 722 people have succumbed to Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic in 2019, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has said.

According to WHO, there were 111 419 939 cumulative Covid-19 cases and 2 470 722 deaths globally as at February 23. In the last 24 hours, 280 853 new cases and 6 884 deaths were recorded.

Meanwhile, the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), said Africa recorded a cumulative 3 844 799 cases, 102 097 deaths and 3 408 755 recoveries as at February 23.

Southern Africa continues to dominate the list with 1 817 089 cumulative cases ,55 634 deaths and 1 670 218 recoveries recorded.
South Africa had 1 504 588 cumulative cases and 49 150 deaths.

Mozambique recorded 56 160 cumulative cases and 599 deaths. Zimbabwe recorded 35 910 cases, 1 448 deaths and 32 288 recoveries.
