THE country recorded 12 more Covid-19 related deaths and 1 249 more new cases in the last 24-hours with hotspots suburbs in Bulawayo recording all the 86 cases in the city.
All the cases are local transmissions.
So far, the total number of Covid-19 cases in the country stands at 48 533 with 1 761 deaths. The national recovery rate has declined to 80 percent as active cases go up to 7 586.
The vaccination programme is continuing countrywide with 1 315 597 having been vaccinated against Covid-19 as of yesterday. A total of 6 461 people received the first dose yesterday while 544 888 people got the second jab.
The seven-day rolling average for new cases rose to 831 yesterday from 727.
As of June 28, 2021 at 3PM, there were 360 people who were hospitalised with 44 new admissions. Thirteen were admitted in intensive care units (ICU) while 229 had mild to moderate symptoms. Fifty-six patients had severe symptoms while 62 were asymptomatic.
Mashonaland West had the highest number of 387 new cases followed by Harare with 182 cases. Mashonaland Central had 122 cases while Midlands recorded 120 cases. Bulawayo recorded 86 cases while Mashonaland East had 85 cases.
Matabeleland South recorded 83 new cases while Masvingo had 78 cases. Manicaland had 59 cases while Matabeleland North has the least number with 47 cases.
“As of June 29, 2021, Zimbabwe, has now recorded 48 533 confirmed cases, 38 323 recoveries and 1 761 deaths,” reads the statement.
President Mnangagwa has placed the country back on a strict level four lockdown, with new restrictions, which include custodial sentences for fake Covid-19 certificate holders, ban on intercity travel and mandatory quarantine for deportees and those from countries with Alpha and Delta Covid-19 variants now in place.
Businesses are now supposed to operate from 8am and close at 3.30pm as part of the lockdown conditions.
