Health and Child Care Minister, Vice President Dr Constantino Chiwenga, has assured the nation that the Covid-19 vaccine will be given to all citizens who wish to be vaccinated free of charge.

This comes after social media alleged the public will pay to be inoculated.

“Let me also reiterate that the Government of Zimbabwe will rollout Covid-19 vaccines for free to all our citizens who wish to be vaccinated.”

He said the policy was inspired by the basic tenet that “life should not be bought”.

VP Chiwenga said this Thursday to mark World Cancer Day.

Government, he added, has forged synergies with friendly states, civil society organisations, strategic partners, corporates and the generality of Zimbabwe to combat the pandemic.

“We are very grateful to the People’s Republic of China for their donation of the Covid-19 vaccine to Zimbabwe,” he said. Efforts are underway to acquire more Covid-19 vaccines.

He, however, urged the nation to be mindful of threats posed by non-communicable diseases like cancer, diabetes, HIV/Aids and hypertension, among others.
