CATTLE rustlers struck under the cover of darkness at a Claremont plot along Esigodini Road, slaughtering three cows and vanishing into the night with the meat.
They left only heads and guts behind.
Police have launched an investigation into the gruesome stock theft that has left farmers in the area shaken. Bulawayo Provincial Deputy Police Spokesperson Assistant Inspector Thandekile Ndlovu said: “Police is investigating a case of stock theft which occurred at a plot, Esigodini Road, Claremont, Bulawayo where unknown accused persons stole three cows and went away.”
The incident happened on 10 November 2025. A 23-year-old cattle minder penned his 21 beasts for the night and went to bed, unaware that thieves were already eyeing their next meal.
“On the 11th of November 2025 at around 0600 hours, he went to the kraal and noticed some blood stains outside the kraal, tracked for about 50 meters and noticed that the unknown accused person stole and slaughtered three cows,” said Asst Insp Ndlovu.
The daring thieves reportedly butchered the cattle on-site before hauling away the carcasses and leaving behind a grisly scene.
“The accused took away the carcasses and left behind offals and heads,” she said.
The total value of the stolen livestock is estimated at US$2 400, and nothing has been recovered.
Asst Insp Ndlovu appealed to the public for help in locating the rustlers.
