Cowdray Park man (27) jailed 9 years for breaking into a liquor shop, stealing US$32, R574

A 27 year old Bulawayo man who broke into a liquor shop and stole US$32 and R574 cash has been sentenced to nine months in prison.

Iphilinde Mpala of Cowdray Park suburb was convicted of unlawful entry into premises by Western Commonage magistrate Mr Jeconia Prince Ncube.

He was initially sentenced to 12 months in prison, of which three months were suspended for five years on condition of good behavior. The remaining nine months are effective.

Prosecutor, Mr Tafara Dzimbanhete told the court that on June 5, 2026 at around 11PM at Perfect Liquor Outlet, the accused person used an unknown object to open the window of the store.

Whilst inside the store he took cash US$32 and R574. Mpala was apprehended by Prince Khumalo who works at the store whilst he was exiting through the same window.

Total value stolen is US$32 and R574, and all was recovered, said Mr Dzimbanhete. A police report was made leading to the arrest of accused, he added.
