In a series of identical bizarre incidents, Sigola villagers have been left tongue-tied as they wake up to find carcasses of their slaughtered cows every month in their homesteads.
These strange incidents have reportedly occurred for the past eight months.
The village head, Mehluli Ndlovu, confirmed that in the past months several cows from different homesteads were found dead by their owners.
“Villagers have reported to me about the astonishing incidents, whereby they find their cows lying dead in the morning, in fact skeletal remains of their cows are what villagers discover,” said Ndlovu.
Ndlovu added that they had tried to report their predicament to relevant authorities but efforts to catch the person behind these outlandish occurrences have been futile.
A villager who has been affected said: “My son was the first one to discover one of my dead cows in my compound. When he called me to witness the scene my heart hurt so much. It was painful for me to come to terms with what I was seeing because my cows are very important to me. I immediately alerted the neighbours and we reported the issue to the village head,” said Witness Mpofu.
Other villagers who spoke to B-Metro said they were now leaving in fear because they did not know who was killing their cows.
“The most disturbing thing is that we do not know the culprit. The fact that this person has not been caught means more of our cows will be killed,” said a villager who only identified himself as Sibanda.
Sibanda said he feared that this astounding incident could be connected to witchcraft.
“I suspect that the person killing our cows is involved in witchcraft, since he slaughters the cows every month and leaves the carcasses in the homesteads.”
Sibanda went on to say it was necessary to conduct a cleansing ceremony so that the wizard or witch could be caught.
“We need reliable prophets to come and identify the person who is tormenting us. This is not normal and we cannot just sit and watch while our cows perish,” said Sibanda.
