CREATIVES have welcomed the $7,8 billion allocated towards arts, sports, recreation and youth sectors by the Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Professor Mthuli Ncube in the 2022 budget.
Arts veteran and Amakhosi Theatre founder Cont Mhlanga said it was important to channel funds to the creative industry.
“We welcome and appreciate such a move because, for the first time since independence, the country has, at last, got a finance minister who understands where the true future of the economy of this country lies.
“Investing in developing creative young people is the surest way of constructing a solid economic programme for this country.
Everything else remains just a short-term intervention, but this budget is an investment,” he said.
The arts industry was one of the hardest hit since the inception of the Covid-19-induced lockdown.– @eMKlass_49.
