HARARE Christian Soccer League is set to stage another tournament before the end of the year.
The league entered its off-season after Giants JCC were crowned champions.
Two weeks ago, the league held the PANJAP Cup, which was won by AFMZ, who staged a comeback to upset JCC 3-2 in the final, at Motor Action Sports Club.
The league is now focused on wrapping up the year in style by staging another tournament.
“Our main mandate is to minister the word and preach the goodness of Christ through football.
“We have to reach out to more souls and it’s been working as we have managed to bring in the numbers,” said Derrick Mawire, the Harare Christian Soccer League chairperson.
“With the numbers on our side, we have also seen how football creates opportunities for the players.
“It is taking them off the streets where they can be exposed to a lot of dangers.
“This is one of the reasons we have engaged in campaigns against drug abuse and other illicit substances,” he said.
Mawire believes drug abuse has had a negative impact on a number of lives and it’s now their duty to warn, and teach the youths, about the dangers of indulging in such activities.
“Drug abuse has impacted negatively on the lives of many youths.
“So, through football, we have also taken the onus to lecture the boys on how they should stick to what is right.
“The good news is that we are also going to have another Cup tournament in the coming few weeks and we are going to preach against drug abuse,” he said.
