Crocodile attack claims Victoria Falls canoe guide’s life

THE tourism community in Victoria Falls has been plunged to mourning after a veteran canoe guide was killed in a crocodile attack on the Zambezi River on Friday afternoon.

The incident occurred near Kadahar Island, a popular stretch for river safaris.

The victim has been identified as Marlven Nyoni, a 43-year-old resident of Mkosana in Victoria Falls, who was employed as an assistant guide by the Victoria Falls Canoe Company.

According to initial reports, the attack happened during a canoe trip.

The body of the deceased has since been recovered from the river.

ZIMPARKS Public Relations Manager Mr Tinashe Farawo confirmed the tragic incident.

“We can confirm the report of a canoe guide attacked and killed by a crocodile. Our offiers attended the incident whereby an assistant to a canoe guide was attacked and killed by a crocodile during a canoe trip along the Zambezi River at Kadahar Island,” he said.

Mr Farawo said the exact details of the encounter are still unclear.
“Circumstances on how exactly he got attacked are not yet clear. A detailed update with circumstances will follow once we get the full details,” he said.

He said official investigations by the authorities are now underway.

This tragic event has sent shockwaves through the local tourism industry, which relies heavily on the Zambezi River for activities.
