LANDING a collaboration with a foreign musician is every local musician’s wish.
The dream can’t get any better when the artist one is courting is big in their homeland.
This could be the case with Zimbabwean Afro jazz crooner, Lovemore “Lavezh” Nherudzo, who has collaborated with Kenyan gospel musician, Fenny Kerubo.
The two collaborated on a gospel song aptly named Jehovah.
Fenny is sister to renowned Kenyan artist and videographer, Dennis Onyamo.
“I have always wanted to work with some of the continent’s best and my dream came true when Kenyan gospel musician, Fenny Kerubo, agreed to work with me.
“I started charting with her on social media, when I followed her Facebook page, and begged her that I was willing to work with her.
“She followed me back and from there, we have been good buddies,” he said.
Although he is yet to meet her in person, the two still managed to record a song together.
“With technology, it’s easier nowadays because you can always do work via the internet.
“In my case, we recorded our part here in Zimbabwe at KOM Studios and sent it to her via email.
“In return, Fenny recorded and sent back her part and it was mixed and mastered here in Zimbabwe. I really enjoyed working with her and we are still in touch.”
The 36-year-old crooner, who is set to launch her new album titled Chiuranga Mapenzi on April 9 in Harare, said it was his wish to invite her for the launch.
“I would have loved to meet her earlier and, of course, invited her to meet my Zimbabwean fans but she is definitely coming. She will definitely come so that we record the video of the song together.
“I’m grateful to the Almighty because I’m seeing the hand of the Lord through music and networking.
“I am also happy that my music is now being played in Kenya and I have never dreamt of that in my life,” he said.
Lavezh, a women’s rights defender, believes female artists have the potential to excel when they are respected and well managed.
“In line with the Women’s Month, I am very glad that I have managed to play a part by advocating for their rights and engaging them for life-changing projects.
“Back home, I once managed Jean Masters and she is the one who has been pushing me to record my music,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Brave Stars frontman is ready to launch his seventh album.
Recorded at KOM Studios by Oscar Chamba and Knowledge Nkoma, Chiranga Mapenzi carries 12 tracks.
