George Maponga Masvingo Bureau
Zanu-PF acting Masvingo provincial chairman Cde Paradzai Chakona last week accused the previous ruling party provincial executive of abusing millions of dollars donated by several firms under the Community Share Ownership Scheme over the past three years.
Cde Chakona said the previous Zanu-PF executive, led by ousted chairman Retired Brigadier-General Callisto Gwanetsa, failed to open a bank account and register a trust to keep and manage funds donated by firms since 2012.
The revelations come as the executive has started moves to open a bank account and register a trust that will manage Community Share Ownership Trust funds across the province to ensure transparency.
The Zanu-PF chair alleged that companies such as Tongaat Hulett, Renco Mine, Bikita Minerals, Lennox Mine and Save Valley Conservancy donated money to some political leaders in the province under the CSOT. He, however, could not reveal the exact amount donated. “It is shocking that no bank account was opened to keep donations that were coming from these companies. The trust was never registered and individuals were just receiving money and diverting it to projects of their choice.’’
