CTC assistant director Mr Benjamin Chinhengo confirmed yesterday that they had begun the process of compiling complaints on restrictive practices by a number of companies against Innscor.
“We should be calling in Innscor for the hearing some time in February,” he said.
The CTC instituted investigations into the diversified conglomerate in October after several companies accused it of restrictive practices.
Innscor, which has stakes in a dozen renowned companies under its ambit, is accused of suffocating many businesses out of the food industry. The CTC probe was triggered by a plethora of complaints lodged by affected companies and observations by the CTC itself.
The probe was instituted in line with Section 28 (2) Chapter 14:28 of the Competition Act, with the corporate behemoth being investigated mainly for two issues, that is, restrictive practices and creating a barrier against other companies.
Innscor has stakes in concerns such as National Foods, Colcom, Irvine’s Chickens, Baker’s Inn, Chicken Inn, Nando’s, Spar Supermarkets, SavMor Supermarkets, Freshpro, Iris Biscuits, Capri and TV Sales and Home.
