MINISTER of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Cde Nokuthula Matsikenyeri, has hailed culture week commemorations, saying this will promote culture as an agent for inclusion.

Speaking during the launch of Permaculture Centre in Chaseyama in Chimanimani East on Wednesday, Minister Matsikenyeri said culture week is an opportunity to celebrate and integrate culture in the sustainable development framework.

“The World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development is an occasion to promote culture and highlight the significance of its diversity as an agent for inclusion and positive change.

“It presents an opportunity to celebrate culture’s manifold forms, from tangible and intangible; to creative industries; to diversity of cultural expressions and to reflect on how these contribute to dialogue, mutual understanding and the social, environment and economic vectors of sustainable development,” she said.

Culture Week is commemorated annually, with a national launch being held on a rotational basis in the provinces.

President Mnangagwa recently officially launched this year’s National Culture Week in Midlands.

This year’s theme is: ‘Resilience in Safeguarding Creative and Cultural Diversity.’
