MAREGA Primary School, under Chief Garahwa in Chipinge District, will be under the spotlight on Friday when it hosts Culture Month national celebrations.
An array of activities, ranging from cultural exhibitions to musical performances, will take place, thanks to the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe, in partnership with the Ministry of Sport, Recreation, Arts & Culture
Vice President Kembo Mohadi is the Guest of Honour.
In an interview with H-Metro, National Arts Council of Zimbabwe director, Napoleon Nyanhi, said it was all systems go.
“We are now geared up and ready. There is an inter-ministerial implementation committee that is on the ground composed of officials and officers from various ministries working together with the local organising committee that has been doing a sterling job so far.
“We have a cultural exhibition and lots of entertainment by artists from Manicaland and other provinces.
“Our guest of honour for the programme is Vice President Kembo Mohadi,” said Nyanhi.
The NACZ director said this year’s edition is taking place in Chipinge in line with the Government’s mantra of inclusivity.
“As we preach cultural diversity, we are leaving no one and no place behind.
“Last year we were in Binga, this year we are in Chisumbanje, Chipinge District under Chief Garahwa as we appreciate the Ndau community which is one of the most preserved local cultures.
“This year’s theme, ‘Our Culture — Building Zimbabwe brick by Brick’, is in line with Vision 2030 and it is a commitment by the Creative and Culture Industries sector of Zimbabwe to the implementation and realisation of the NDS 1 objectives.
“We are encouraging Zimbabweans to pull our energies together in implementing cultural programmes that facilitate economic growth by a people who are resilient, hardworking and patriotic.”
Nyanhi urged Zimbabweans to preserve their culture.
“Culture is of premium significance in national development because it carries a strong impact on the behaviour of our people and the perception that the world has on us as a nation.
“Right now, we are fighting against drug and substance abuse, a problem that could be eradicated when people value our culture and norms.”
This year’s edition, which is set to be headlined by Suluman Chimbetu, Dorcas Moyo and Killer T, will culminate into a musical celebration.
Other acts on the line-up are Blessing Shumba, Pasichigare Guruve Marimba Group, Holland Maungwe, Expression Band, Bolamba, Chibuwe TD, Charurwa TD, Mambo Guramatunhu among other local group.
