Cundy reveals Boxing Day nightmare as Peter twisted him

TalkSPORT’s Jason Cundy opened up about his Christmas nightmare, revealing that one of his worst performances happened on December 26.

He assures us that it wasn’t due to too many pigs in blankets or a gallon of Bucks Fizz the day before, but rather a nice display from his opponent, Peter Ndlovu.

Cundy didn’t have the best of Christmases that year

“One of the worst performances of my career came on Boxing Day. We played Birmingham City at home,” Cundy told talkSPORT.

“On Christmas Day, I drank a tiny glass of champagne. That’s all I’ve had all day. I couldn’t drink in front of my mum and dad.

“There’s no way I’m going to do it anyway, but I just had a little drink. I was living in London, so I went to Ipswich the next day.

“Peter Ndlovu twisted me upside down — my body was like a corkscrew on the end!

“He liked a step, right?” It absolutely tore me up all over the park.

No one doubts it happened, but Cundy seems to remember scoring an own goal — something the records show didn’t happen!
Looking back in the talkSPORT archives, there was no sign that Cundy had pierced his own net against Birmingham on Boxing Day 1997, with the goal handed over to Jon McCarthy instead.

Jason Cundy reveals Boxing Day nightmare as Peter Ndlovu made him feel like he had “four roast dinners and about three bottles of champagne”.

The dubious goals panel either took away the former defender, or he really drank more than a glass of champagne that night!
Cundy recalls: “We were only beaten 1-0, but guess who scored the goal — me! It was an own goal, he bounced off my shins!

“If the people of Ndlovu are listening now, I don’t know how long you slept that night, but I went to bed early, didn’t drink, nothing.

“The next day, honestly, I couldn’t run, I couldn’t breathe, and it looked like I had about four roast dinners and about three bottles of champagne, which I didn’t.” — talkSPORT
