Government should offer competitive salaries to health personnel to curb brain drain, Zimbabwe Physiotherapy Association president Mrs Dorcas Madzivire has said.
She was speaking at the ZPA 25th anniversary celebrations in Harare yesterday.
The association yesterday offered free treatment to the public at Parirenyatwa Hospital.
Mrs Madzivire said, “There has been a high rate of professionals leaving the country to work elsewhere.
“We call upon Government to take up measures that will prevent brain drain and make our working conditions favourable so that physiotherapists have the zeal to work locally.”
University of Zimbabwe College of Health Science Deputy Dean, Mr Rangarirai Masanganise, added: “It is sad to note that over the years of training only 25 percent of graduates are employed in Zimbabwe and the rest have left the country for greener pastures.”
Mrs Grace Sibanda, whose son received free treatment, thanked the ZPA for its community responsibility programmes.
