Shows will now run from Tuesday right up to Sunday instead of Tuesday to Saturday as was the norm, starting at 5.30pm with a matinee on Saturday and Sunday starting at 3pm.
Afternoon shows, which were a popular feature on the theatre calendar, will be re-introduced.
Saturday will have two shows, the matinee show at 3pm in the afternoon and the normal 5:30pm evening show while Sunday will play host to one show — an afternoon show starting at 3.00.
According to Daves Guzha, the producer of Rooftop Promotions, the play’s runs have also been shortened to two weeks at most due to demand from independent theatre directors and companies who want their work showcased at one of Southern Africa’s foremost theatre venues.
“True to the nature of plays showcased at Theatre in the Park, theatre lovers can expect another dosage of socially conscious productions from various producers from all over Zimbabwe.
“In a new strategy of giving corporate bodies the opportunity to adopt premiere nights; we are pleased to announce that the Grain Marketing Board has come on board for the first play of the season.
“Patrons will be kept warm throughout this winter with a hot cup of coffee while they enjoy sizzling hot productions. GMB is delighted to use this great platform to launch its brand new coffee brand, Mutarazi Coffee, which will be served together with their chewy munchy maputi,” he said.
“Desperate in Love” features in its cast Tapiwa Mavindidze, Caroline Mashingaidze and Marian Kunonga.
A prominent face on our television screens, Mavindidze makes her debut on the theatre stage and brings a wealth of acting experience having featured in many television productions in the last five years. She is best known for her acting role as VJ in the television soap opera, Studio 263.
Kunonga is a veteran all-rounder, who has been in the arts industry for a long time while Mashingaidze, another prominent face on our television screens, makes a welcome return to Theatre in the Park.
She last featured in a play called “Lovers, Friends and Money” also written by Chifunyise.
