Curtains come down on CSL season

THE Zifa Central Soccer league curtain comes down today with virtually all the matches being dead rubbers after Shabanie Mine secured the championship last week by beating FC Platinum Under 19 1-0.

The relegation tussle has also been decided with log anchors Gweru United, Kwekwe Sables, Chrome Stars and ZPC Munyati already demoted to Division Two.

Perhaps the only battle worth noting is the tussle for second spot between Ivan Hoe and Blanket Mine.

Ivan Hoe will be hoping to end the season on a high when they take on Tongogara while Blanket Mine entertain relegated Gweru United in which a win will guarantee them second position if they go on to be awarded their abandoned match against Nichrut three weeks ago.

Shabanie Mine conclude the season with an away assignment to Jessie Mine and the asbestos miners will be anxiously monitoring boardroom schisms pitting Zifa and the PSL.

Zifa councillors last month overturned their 2015 resolution stipulating that the PSL will relegate two teams and promote the same number, with winners of the four regional Zifa Division One leagues taking part in promotional play-offs to determine the two sides going up.

Councillors now want the topflight league to relegate four teams with the regional champions earning automatic promotion.

Shabanie Mine coach Tendai Chikuni said his side is prepared for any eventuality.

“I do not know if I am the right person to be responding to that question because it is an administrative issue.

“As a coach, my job ends in the field of play and if we are told to go for play-offs then we have no choice but to play,” said Chikuni
