FORMER Miss Zimbabwe 2011 — Miss Personality Lungile Mathe has ditched modelling and is now pursuing a career in music with a track she featured on expected to be released later this month. The electro dance music track Talking about us is being produced by Defined House and will feature Bulawayo house artiste — Roxy the Bunnie.
“On the track I’ll be singing some parts but most of the singing was done by Roxy the Bunnie, a very talented lady. I also helped with the production of the track which promises to be one of the hits this summer,” said Mathe.
The leggy former model, popularly known as Cyclone Ree, said featuring on Bulawayo hip hop artiste POY’s music video for Mabhomba inspired her to try her hand at music.
“When I featured on POY’s music video in 2012, I enjoyed every moment I was on set. That’s what drove me to pursue music and when the opportunity to produce a track, I jumped at it,” Cyclone Ree said.
“I’ve put my modelling career on hold and I’m venturing into music full time. I want to try my hand out in every arts sector and music is what I’m focusing on right now.”
She said they would shoot a music video for the track and would release the video to regional music channels such as Channel O, Trace and MTV Base.
The ex-model, whose controversial personality got her sacked by the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority left the country two years ago for China where she had been modelling. She returned home last year.
She said working in China also helped carve her music talent as she was introduced to DJs there who taught her some techniques of the trade.
“During my modelling stint in China, I was approached by a woman who runs a nightspot there who advised me to try my hand at DJing. She took me to Club Me in Beijing, introduced me to DJ Sunday who in turn taught me how to DJ and produce music,” said Cyclone Ree.
She said when she returned to Zimbabwe, she indicated to friends and relatives that she could now play music, but has not got any bookings yet.
“I’m still waiting for people to book me. Unfortunately no one has approached me to play at their nightspots. With this career path, hopefully people will start to notice my other talent,” said Cyclone Ree.
