Cynthia Mare robbed

AFRO-Jazz songstress Cynthia Mare was on Monday night a victim of the popular “smash and grab” crime as a thief pounced on her when she was trying to avoid potholes in Sunningdale, Harare.
Relating her ordeal to Chronicle Showbiz, Mare, who was driving home from editing her music videos in Waterfalls, said the robber pounced on her as she slowed down to avoid a pothole.

“I was driving home from Waterfalls, along Bishop Street at around 9PM. As I slowed down, some man came out of the darkness and hit the front passenger seat window, shattering it. In shock I panicked and the car stalled and switched off.

“I was traumatised by the look I got from him as I thought he wanted to harm me. He reached inside and grabbed the handbags that were on the passenger’s seat and disappeared into the night,” she said.

As a result, the Dai Zvaibvira – Zuva Rimwe hit-maker lost her handbags that contained an iMac, iPad, camera, external hard disks, money and bank cards to the male robber.

Mare said although she was disturbed by the incident, she was happy to be alive and unharmed.
She, however, blamed the country’s poor roads and lack of street lights for the robbery.

“We need to do something to make our country a safer place. I blame the incident on bad roads and lack of street lighting. Thieves keep taking advantage of this and something needs to be done urgently.

“One guy was killed last week at the very same spot I was attacked,” said Mare.
She appealed to relevant authorities to help fight crime by fixing roads and installing proper lighting.
