The donation included cases of Mazoe, boxes of sweets, washing soap and bath soap and soups valued at hundreds of dollars.
Speaking during the presentation of the donation at the Jairos Jiri Centre, the Matabeleland CZI Chamber president, Mr Cleopas Moyo said the donation was part of CZI’s corporate social responsibility.
“As companies we struggle to make ends meet, but it is always a good thing to help the community that supports us,” said Mr Moyo.
Accepting the donation, Jairos Jiri Centre committee member Mr Fanuel Masikati expressed gratitude and urged CZI to continue with their corporate social responsibility.
“We are sincerely grateful for the donation. However, we are appealing to the business community to assist us with foodstuffs, medicines, bedding, training material and especially a deep freezer”
At QUECH, CZI second vice president Mr Mpumelelo Mkhwananzi said his organisation was happy to be part of the disadvantaged children’s life.
The QUECH matron Ms Stella Soutter thanked CZI for the kind gesture.
“We would want to thank CZI for such a kind gesture. May the Lord bless you for the good thing you have done. We always have problems and wish the outside the community would continue helping us,” she said.
QUECH has about 30 orphaned children most of whom were abandoned or abused.
