The Confederation of Zimbabwe Retailers (CZR) has said it fully supports the Constitutional Amendment No. 3 Bill, which seeks to strengthen governance and enhance State efficiency.

Cabinet recently approved the Constitutional Amendment No. 3 Bill of 2026, which proposes a parliamentary process for the election of the President and seeks to replace the current five-year term with a seven-year term.

The Bill also introduces a raft of legal reforms aimed at strengthening constitutional governance, clarifying institutional roles, promoting political stability and enhancing the efficiency of the State architecture.

In a statement, CRZ president, Dr Denford Mutashu said peace, security, and stability were the bedrock of national progress.

“These pillars guarantee investor confidence, protect productive assets, and ensure policy continuity—essential elements for sustainable economic growth under National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1) and NDS2 as we advance toward Vision 2030.

“Our support is grounded in tangible results. Under the Second Republic, Zimbabwe has achieved significant progress: gross domestic product (GDP) growth from US$20 billion (2017) to US$52 billion (2025), stabilised inflation at 4.1 percent, restored fuel and energy stability and record performances in gold, tobacco, and wheat production,” he said.

He said there was also infrastructure development, rural industrialisation, and renewed investor confidence evident nationwide.

Dr Mutashu said commerce flourishes where peace prevails, while the stability being enjoyed in the country must not be disrupted by perpetual election cycles.

“We therefore support extending President Mnangagwa’s term to 2030, as development requires leadership continuity to complete transformative projects and consolidate national gains.

“The Second Republic is delivering measurable progress. As retailers operating in every community, we witness daily the benefits of a stable environment. We stand firmly behind this constitutional reform process that safeguards stability and accelerates our journey toward an upper-middle-income economy by 2030,” he added.
