Safa vice-president Jordaan, who was CEO of the Local Oraganising Committee for the 2010 Fifa World Cup in South Africa, and Caf vice-president Patel are the only two in the running for the presidency.
Patel, from the Seychelles, has held the position since 2006, and will know shortly after the start of the AGM at 10am on Friday whether he has been voted back in by the 14-member association and Fifa development officer Ashford Mamelodi.
Jordaan is said to have the support of countries like Botswana and Zimbabwe but the likes of Mozambique and Zambia are stacked up against him.
Jordaan has been travelling in the region seeking support. He is promising buses to the Cosafa countries and also for sponsorship to revive the annual Cosafa Senior Challenge Cup, which has been abandoned because of a lack of sponsorship.
But Patel has challenged him to prove he can get the sponsorship and not to just make empty promises in an e-mail that was leaked to the Press this week.
Patel is also accusing Jordaan of only seeking to use Cosafa to gain influence so that he can again bid to try and get onto the Fifa executive committee. Jordaan was defeated by a wide margin in his last bid for a Fifa spot at the Caf Congress in Sudan in February.
Cosafa vice-president Salemane Phafane from Lesotho will stand unopposed for re-election to his role. — SuperSport.com
