Highlanders Football Club has officially confirmed the deaths of club chairman Retired Colonel Kenneth Mhlophe, vice chairman Sifiso Siziba and executive committee member responsible for finance, Nkani Khoza, who were killed in a road traffic accident on Thursday night while returning from the club’s Castle Lager Premier Soccer League fixture against ZPC Kariba.
In a statement released on Friday, the Bulawayo giants described the trio as visionary leaders whose contribution to the club would never be forgotten.
“Our three esteemed club officials tragically lost their lives in a road accident while returning from our league fixture against ZPC Kariba on Thursday evening, 23 July 2026,” the club said.
Highlanders said the three were more than administrators, having played a pivotal role in shaping the club’s future and preserving its values.
“They were far more than club officials. They were the architects of the Club’s vision, the guardians of our values, and father figures to so many within the Highlanders Football Club family. Their leadership, wisdom, dedication, and unwavering commitment to Bosso will never be forgotten,” reads the statement.
The club extended its condolences to the bereaved families, members, supporters and the wider football fraternity.
“We extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to their families, loved ones, the football fraternity, our members, supporters, and everyone whose lives they touched. We ask that you keep the bereaved families in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.”
Highlanders said details regarding funeral arrangements and other official matters would be communicated in due course.
“Rest in peace and power, our leaders. Your legacy will live on forever in the heart of Highlanders Football Club.”
The deaths of Mhlophe, Siziba and Khoza have sent shockwaves through Zimbabwean football, with clubs, football administrators, players, supporters and other stakeholders continuing to pay tribute to the three executives for their immense contribution to Highlanders FC and the game in the country.
