EVENT production company Dab Three Events, long recognised for giving Matabeleland artistes a platform through concerts, shows and podcasts, is proving that it is more than just a promoter. The company has broadened its footprint by forming a fully-fledged musical outfit, The DAB Band.
This development underscores Dab Three’s commitment to nurturing Bulawayo’s creative scene, offering artistes not only exposure but also development, mentorship and the tools needed to thrive.
The newly formed band has already struck the right chord, having recently been crowned winners of the Bulawayo provincial leg of the Chibuku Road to Fame competition. They will now carry the province’s hopes as they compete in the national finals next month.
The DAB Band was established under Dab Three Investment’s Studio portfolio, which encompasses all of the company’s musical initiatives. The group comprises Bekezela Ncube (band manager), Sanelisiwe Musipa (backing vocalist), Paris T Musa (backing vocalist), Brilliant N Sibanda (lead vocalist), Akim C Chinula (keyboardist), Khulekani Ndlovu (bassist), Mbusi Ndlovu (lead guitarist), Toufiq Y Masinda (drummer), and Muziwenkosi Magwaza (percussionist).
Band director Ncube said the idea of forming the band was conceived when the studio portfolio was launched in 2024.
“Part of the studio’s mandate is artiste identification, development and management. Through talent searches, we identified passionate individuals with potential across various facets of the music industry. This group showed a strong desire to form a band and showcase their talents. The final product has been shaped through consistent rehearsals, coaching and discipline,” said Ncube.
He added the band draws inspiration from the region’s rich cultural heritage, which informs both their identity and artistic expression.
“For us, this is about transforming ordinary individuals into the best versions of themselves. The journey has not been without its challenges, especially when you’re pioneering, but self-belief and trust in our processes have kept us going.
“The key lesson is never to wait for perfect conditions. Start where you are, trust your capabilities, and everything else will follow,” he said.
Ncube said the band’s provincial victory affirms Dab Three’s dedication to developing artistes beyond the stage.
“Winning at the provincial level shows that hard work and a commitment to quality truly pay off.
“This recognition proves that the sky is not the limit — it’s only the beginning. We’re now preparing for the national finals and, beyond that, we have long-term plans, which will be revealed in due course.
“Being an artiste is not enough. One must be part of a supportive ecosystem to progress with greater speed and consistency. That’s what Dab Three is building,” said Ncube. — @mthabisi_mthire
