A Grade Seven Bikita pupil died last Sunday after he was allegedly sjamboked by his father for farting while the family was having supper.

Munyaradzi Musavengana (13) of Musavengana Village in Mukanganwi communal lands, who was a pupil at Gwindingwi Primary School died after his father sjamboked him, resulting in him crashing his head on a rock.

Police have since arrested Munyaradzi’s father, Solomon Musavengana (48), for allegedly murdering his son.

Masvingo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Charity Mazula last Thursday said Solomon was in custody assisting police with investigations.

“We arrested a Bikita man in connection with the murder of his son. The son is alleged to have farted while the family was having supper resulting in Solomon beating him up. Investigations are still continuing,’’ she said.

It is alleged that on the fateful day, the deceased, together with the other family members were having supper at their homestead at Musavengana Village.

Munyaradzi allegedly farted prompting the other family members to strongly rebuke him for doing that while others were eating food.

He then bolted out of the house to flee from his father who was trying to intercept him while armed with a sjambok.

Munyaradzi allegedly fell from his father’s loose grip and crashed his head against a rock that was near the family’s kitchen. Seething with anger, Solomon pulled up his son and started sjamboking him.

Soon after Munyaradzi started to complain of severe headache to his mother who tried to administer first aid. However, the boy died a few minutes later before he could be rushed to hospital.

A report was made to police at Nyika Growth Point leading to Solomon’s arrest.
