Daily Covid infections surge

Herald Reporter

Zimbabwe recorded 4 996 new cases of Covid-19 infection yesterday, setting another record in daily infection and the figure so high that 3,3 percent of all 150 628 cases recorded since the start of the infections in Zimbabwe early last year were recorded in just that one day yesterday.

But while the infection rate rose again yesterday, the death rate fell from five to two, and the number of Covid-19 patients in hospital fell marginally from 226 seen on Tuesday to 214 yesterday, with just two of them in intensive care and 29 considered with severe symptoms.

Yesterday 26 454 people presented for either a first or second jab, around a quarter of what the teams have handled at maximum demand.
