Pengaudzoke frontman Daiton Somanje, who is recuperating from a serious ailment that saw him taking a break from live performances over the past months, returned on stage with a fighting spirit on Friday night.Although it was clear that the singer is yet to fully recover, the musician soldiered on when he performed at Warren Park 1 Bar.
Daiton had been off the radar for some time due to a troublesome leg problem but he managed to deliver a good act.
The “Tsaona” singer saluted the crowds for keeping faith in him by coming in their numbers before he belted yesteryear hit “Muramu”.
“I want to thank you all for your prayers which have helped me to rise to perform in front of you today. I know your prayers have kept me going and it is pleasing to be out here with you tonight,” he said.
Although the musician came to the stage later than expected, his lieutenant Awula Pilo gave him the much needed cover as he did well in place of his ailing master.
During the Friday show, Pilo did most of the vocals with Daiton jumping in the fray here and there while focusing most of his attention on his guitar, a true indication that the singer was yet to get back to his form.
Pilo even revealed to The Herald Entertainment after the show that he was doing most of the work because his boss had not yet fully recuperated.
“There is no secret that Mdara has not fully recovered so for the time being I will be doing most of the work but he will be there. We are glad, however, to be back because our fans missed us and we can now perform for them and show them our love,” said Pilo.
Daiton admitted that he has not fully recovered but added he could not just sit and seek assistance from well-wishers.
“I am on the road to recovery but my leg keeps giving me problems. We have resumed shows because there is need to bring food on the table and I cannot wait until I fully recover. We all have families to feed.
“I am, however, feeling a lot better and hope to be fully fit soon,” he said.
