Dam/Dip tanks commisioned

THE Minister of State for Matabeleland South Provincial Affairs, Cde Abednico Ncube on Wednesday commissioned a dip tank, dam and nutritional gardens in Matobo District.

The commissioning was held at Magololo Village in Ward 12, where communities have been experiencing water shortages. The Minister said the project was in line with Government’s Zim Asset initiative and will boost infrastructure development in rural areas.

“Matabeleland South is a livestock region which is an important resource in boosting the economy. This commissioning we have done today is a great development, which will ensure that we have healthy animals. It is also in line with Government’s blueprint Zim Asset which seeks to promote infrastructure development and promote nutrition in rural areas,” said Cde Ncube.

Matobo District acting District Administrator Mr Obey Chafusira said the project will benefit the communities and improve their lives.

“We are very happy with this development because previously communities had to travel almost 20 kilometres to the next dip tank. Now about 730 animals are going to benefit from this dip tank,” he said.

“The dam had been leaking and now that it has been rehabilitated, livestock will have water to drink and the nutritional gardens and banana plantation will also be watered. We have 50 families benefiting from the nutritional gardens, which mean that nutritional security at household level is secured, as well as income generation,” he said.

Mr Chafusira encouraged communities to play their part in maximising the nutritional gardens and install solar panels and move away from the bucket way of watering gardens.

The project was spearheaded by Hope for a Child in Christ Organisation and funded by World Food Programme (WFP).
