Dance group fights drug abuse

TYLER Revs ZW, a local dance group, is using dance to fight against drug and substance abuse.

The group has created a platform for talented youths in the community to learn, grow and shine so that they shun drug and substance abuse.

The campaign is being held under the banner “The Stage”, which is the mother board of their project.

The group intends to use arts to fight drug and substance abuse because a lot of young people have interest in arts which makes it easy for the group to reach many youths.

Tinotenda Tyler Revesai, the leader of the dance group said:

“We have not really dedicated any dance moves to a certain theme in part but we are trying to be catchy to attract the youth hence the use of amapiano and rhumba.

“Dance or most forms of arts we want to use are exciting and engaging, unlike other forms of communication.”

She added:

“This way is not as confrontational as other ways can be.

“From time to time, we will be hosting workshops on dance/arts, which also incorporate anti-drug awareness sessions.”

The group was formed in June this year.

The group is recruiting young people, especially those who have nothing to do.

The exercise is meant to reduce the use of drugs by the youths, as they will be occupied.

So far the group has only started ‘The Stage: Dance’ since it’s easy considering the low budget involved.

Once it’s properly functional they will move to another arm of The Stage.
