A BATTLE for supremacy looms when over 20 dancehall chanters clash at Dzivarasekwa Stadium for what has been dubbed “ Zim Dancehall Heroes Special Part 2”. This is one of the many Heroes holiday special gigs lined up for the long weekend and make no mistake this is one of the most anticipated shows as whoever wins will be crowned King of the Dancehall.
Previous battles have churned out stars in dancehall and those who lose will wait for another chance at the same battle to prove their mettle.
On the bill are some of the heavy hitters on Zimbabwean dancehall music scene in the form of Guspy Warrior, Freeman, Killah T, Shinsoman, Sniper, Dadza D, Seh Galaz and Lady Squanda.
Also expected are Mostaff, Kina, Sunshine Family, Crystal, Mega Force, Prince Spice, Magical and Bounty Lisa.
And just to make whoever wins at the gig is legitimate, The Templeman aka Godfather, DJ Garry B, Smiley of Legendary Sound, Mega B, Adeline and DJ Bimma will be present to endorse whoever lifts the crown.
So far Guspy Warrior has been on cloud nine with his last year chart topper “Seunononga”, a dance floor filler. The song has put Guspy on the spotlight and he seems to be the frontrunner at the contest when he takes to the stage.
Hot pursuit
There were some who thought Guspy would never hold his own with the support of Winky D but it turned out that Guspy aka The Preacher’s son is just as talented as the Ninja President.
He, however, faces a stiff challenge from the likes of Freeman and Shinsoman who are following in hot pursuit for the title.
Lucky for enough for Freeman aka the Dancehall Doctor as he will be playing in his own background – DZ often referred to as “Danger Zone”.
He also boasts a number of chart toppers including “Joina City” which went viral as a breakthrough single. Freeman commands a huge following not only in Dzivarasekwa but in most ghettoes. He is not newcomer either when it comes to dancehall battles.
Sniper Storm is another heavy hitter who gives his all when it comes to battle. He has been through it all and he knows how to rock his fans. Probably the most sought-after chanter in the line-up and he will not disappoint.
The same goes with Shinsoman, who calls himself Dancehall Father. We wonder where they get these names from, but love or hate him, Shinsoman is slowly edging towards conquering the music scene especially with his number “Waya Waya”.
Chipaz Promotions, who are putting the show together, said there was lots in store for those that love Zimbabwean dancehall music.
The gig, which coincides with Zimbabwe’s Heroes Day celebrations, is a must attend as it brings all the big names on one dance floor.
