Dancehall fiesta at Pick and Save

Entertainment Correspondent
LOCAL dancehall musicians will have the time of their lives again when they meet at the popular entertainment joint, Pick and Save Supperrette tomorrow (Saturday) at a show dubbed: “Dancehall Fiesta.”
Dancehall queens, Lady Popa and Fire Lady are some of the hottest chanters from the sprawling suburb of Sakubva who will headline this weekend’s fete.

Last weekend, a sizeable crowd gathered at the same venue for the dancehall riddim, Manica Baseline launch. Artistes who comprised youthful chanters from several high-density suburbs in Mutare put up outstanding performances.
The riddim was produced by renowned Harare-based producers, Cashlibz Records and Dollar Gettaz.

The artistes mesmerised Pick and Save proprietor, Isau Mupfumi, who vowed to support the musicians and craft a launch pad for their promising careers.

He said his vision with the upcoming artistes was to see them excelling and competing with renowned dancehall musicians from Harare.
The shows will start at 2pm and ends at 7pm.

“Soul Jah Love, Kinnah, Tocky Vibes and She Calaz are among an array of other rising dancehall chanters came from the ghetto and conquered the country. We should produce our own stars here and it is our duty as promoters to do just that. We realised that most artistes who performed here tonight (last Saturday) have a lot of potential and are passionate with what they do. We are hosting some of the dancehall musicians from across Mutare. They need exposure and we hope we will achieve our dream and put Mutare’s entertainment industry into greater heights,” Mupfumi said.

The potentially explosive show is scheduled to start at 8pm.
Several dancehall musicians interviewed by The Weekender applauded Mupfumi’s efforts to nurture their talents saying exposure is an important ingredient for the industry’s success.

“We are happy that at least we have someone who is willing to take us aboard and support dancehall. It’s even refreshing to note that we still have promoters who can offer musicians venues to perform for free. We have talent, we need support,” Fire Lady said.

Meanwhile, sungura king Alick Macheso returns to the venue on November 8 for a date with his legion of fans.
