ONE of Manicaland’s rising musical stars, Pee Jay, affectionately known as The Dancehall Lawyer and Manicaland Prince, is gearing up to release a new album, “Hatina Time,” early this month.

This latest project marks a defining chapter in a journey built on raw talent, cultural pride, and an unwavering message for social awareness and empowerment.

Born Petros Jani in the heart of Chibuwe in Chipinge, Pee Jay’s story is one of humble beginnings and unstoppable ambition.

From his early days at Mwacheta Primary School to his secondary education at Chibuwe High and Mwacheta High schools, his educational journey laid the foundation for a unique path that would later blend legal insight with lyrical excellence which earned him the nickname The Dancehall Lawyer.

While his roots lie in academics, it is in music where his spirit truly found its rhythm. Over the years, Pee Jay carved out a unique space in Zimbabwe’s vibrant music scene with projects such as “Life Journey,” “Tiriparwendo,” “Tsime,” and “Man of the Match,” with each album revealing his artistic evolution, social consciousness, and ability to speak directly to the hearts of listeners.

In an interview, the artiste said his forthcoming project, “Hatina Time,” which translates to “We Have No Time”, is a deeply emotional and bold musical statement.

The album explores issues such as poverty, inequality, personal struggle, and the importance of hard work and resilience.

“This album is a reflection of where we are as a society. The title speaks to urgency.

“We have no time to waste, especially when it comes to pursuing dreams, building each other up and correcting what is wrong in our communities,” he said, adding that the project carries a strong motivational message, resonating with both the youth and elderly.

“My goal is to inspire people to move with purpose. I am proud of how this project has come together. Each producer brought something powerful to the table. It’s not just about beats, but about the message and the feeling.

“I want people to hear these songs and feel seen, feel motivated, and feel connected. Especially my people from Chipinge, who have supported me from day one,” he added.

“Hatina Time” features collaborations with a number of producers, including Olin Anderson at Kunashe Studios, Goodlife Studios in Chiredzi, Blackroots Studios, DJ Prilo and Nux at PN Productions, DJ Levels at Chillspot Records, and Cymplex.

The album blends dancehall, Afro-fusion, and conscious reggae, showcasing Pee Jay’s versatility and willingness to push creative boundaries.

In line with his commitment to community, Pee Jay will host a series of launch events in and around Chipinge, bringing the album directly to the people who shaped his journey.
