TALENTED choreographer, Lawrence “Flexxy Smith” Sirewo, has been invited to participate in the World Championship of Performing Arts (WCOPA) in the United States of America for the second time.
The invitation comes as good news to the choreographer who failed to travel to the US last year due to lack of sponsorship.
“I have been invited again to the WCOPA and I will be part of the WCOPA Zimbabwe which will represent the nation.
“Last year, I failed to make it due to sponsorship challenges and I am seeking help from well-wishers to help me with anything they can so that I go and represent my country at that stage.
“They are providing air tickets only, and each country is supposed to sponsor its team. There will be over 70 countries,” he said.
The dancer needs US$5 000.
“Registration is US$1 700, return ticket is US$1 500, accommodation (US$1 100), Visa (US$190), national costume (US$50), local transport (US$200) and administration (US$260).”
WCOPA Zimbabwe notified Sirewo of the new developments.
“We are grateful to inform you that you have been accepted to join the WCOPA Zimbabwe team that will represent the nation at the WCOPA competitions to be held from July 28, to August 6 in Garden Grove California, this year.
“In as much as the administration of WCOPA Zimbabwe, we will try and raise funds to help qualifying contestants from disadvantaged backgrounds. WCOPA competitions are self-sponsored.
“You are requested to pay your registration fee via the national director in order to become a confirmed WCOPA 2023 contestant.”
The performers include Junior World Championships of Performing Arts (JWCOPA) for achieving performers and entertainers aged five to 15 years, and World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) for aspiring performers and entertainers aged 16 years and over.
