It is rare in Karoi or Kariba to commemorate World Aids Day, Independence Day, Heroes Day, World Wetlands Day — the list is long — without the audience receiving quality entertainment from Majimbos — a polished Karoi-based dance group that has taken the entertainment scene by storm.
They dance to tunes by Suluman Chimbetu, Alick Macheso or Tongai Moyo, to name a few, with the proficiency that leaves many wondering whether at one time they ever shared the stage with these music gurus.
Although the elegant outfit which was formed in 2011 has so far thrilled audiences in places like Kariba, Kadoma, Kwekwe and Harare at venues filled to capacity, they still claim things are not yet rosy for them due to lack of adequate promotion.
“We are all family men and we want to fully utilise our talents so that our undertaking makes some meaningful impact on our families,” said Tafadzwa Charigaduri, director of the outfit that is sometimes also involved in theatre.
Charigaduri says although they are doing very well at the moment, judging from the popularity that they command, one of the group’s major drawbacks is lack of a public address system and enough funds to enable them to tour entertainment-starved rural communities.
“Yes, we are very popular in Mashonaland West province as a whole, but it is our wish that we be introduced to other regions of the country through radio, television and newspapers. Such exposure can also assist us in getting the publicity that we are itching for,” added Charigaduri.
All members of Majimbos are aged between 22 and 24 years of age and acknowledge their indebtedness to Karoi-based show promoter Richard Ziki.
