Danger for the unvaccinated . . . as more jabs arrive

CLOSE to 90 percent of people who died of coronavirus in the recent past weeks were not vaccinated, highlighting the significance of the current mass vaccination blitz, a new report from health officials shows.

 

Up to 90 percent of Covid-19 related hospital admissions are the unvaccinated.

 

Government is continuing with its sustained efforts to accelerate the vaccination exercise, which will further be boosted by today’s arrival of additional jabs.

 

Zimbabwe this afternoon took delivery of one million doses of the Chinese-made and World Health Organisation-approved Sinovac Covid-19 vaccines.

 

The country is expecting to receive another batch of 1.5 vaccines this week.

 

The latest report – titled “Covid-19 Admissions and Community Deaths by Vaccination Status, Harare, Zimbabwe” and based on an analysis of mortuary data from 207 deaths – shows that mortality rates from the current third wave of the pandemic are more than during the first and second waves.
