Danhiko Annual Paralympic Games a success

Copota School for the Blind emerged winners for this year’s event and pocketed US$400.
National Rehabilitation Centre and Jairos Jiri Kadoma were second and third respectively.
The Games’ organising committee chairperson, Godfrey Majonga, said they witnessed improved competition in most of the disciplines.
“Overally, in terms of attendance we are very happy with the turnout.
“The competition was tight in many disciplines.
“We went to watch tennis, both male and females final, we enjoyed it. Goal ball was fantastic for both juniors and seniors.
“In terms of organisation today (yesterday) we finished early than we usually do,” said Majonga.
Majonga said they had engaged the Harare Athletics Board and Basketball Union of Zimbabwe to help them on the technical aspect during the Games.
“We are improving, we trained our officials and we had people from HAB and BUZ and they were assisting us in improving the standard of the Games.
“Next year we want to do better, we are just setting a standard not to fall from but to continue improving,” Majonga said.
The organising committee chairperson said they are now focusing on next year’s edition when they will be celebrating their Silver Jubilee.
Majonga paid tribute to the sponsors of the Games and they hope to stage a bigger and better event next year.
“Response from the sponsors was fantastic this year and we want to say ‘thank you to the sponsors.’
“We are looking forward to making sure that the Silver Jubilee is well celebrated,” said Majonga.
The Games were officially opened by the First Lady, Amai Grace Mugabe, on Saturday.
“We want to pay tribute to our patron, the First Lady Amai Grace Mugabe for taking time to be with us.
“We had a lot of entertainment, there was Roki (Rockford Josphat), Oliver Mtukudzi, Sulumani and Saiwe Chimbetu.
“We want to thank Amai Mugabe for continuing to walk with us and the Paralympics,” said Majonga.
Some of the people and sponsors, who came on board to support the Games include Vice-President Joice Mujuru, Delta Corporation, Marange Resources and Zimbabwe Mining Development Corporation.
