MANICALAND’S Dapurahunanzva Dance Troupe won this year’s Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance Festival on Saturday.
The 13-member group performed the Mbakumba dance, at the traditional dance fête held at a packed Harare Gardens.
The Mutare-based group beat Marimba Arts of Mashonaland Central into second place.
Harare’s Dedza Chitandizo of Mufakose finished third.
For their efforts, Dapurahunanzva walked away US$15 000 richer while Marimba Arts won US$10 000 and Dedza Chitandizo US$7 000.
In an interview, Dapurahunazva leader Ruramai Tinavapi said they have made their province proud.
“We are honoured to win the competition, after so many years of trying.
“This is a win for the whole province, a title that we celebrate as people of Mutare.
“It took hard work and determination to achieve this title and I want to thank the team and all our families for the unwavering support.
“This is our second title in the same competition and we are hoping for more success,” said Tinavapi.
The fête also saw superstar, Jah Prayzah, and Killer T sharing the stage during the after party.
The two gave their all as they serenaded their fans.
Chibuku, also celebrating 60 years of traditional beer brewing, gave away four Nissan Navara single cabs, which were won at the celebrations.
Three women, Nyasha Vherisoni of Mvurwi, Stacia Zhuwau and Eunice Banda plus a man, Tapiwa Magweba (Ngundu), won the cars.
