A 23-YEAR-OLD woman from Esigodini escaped death by a whisker when she was brutally stabbed and raped by two men who shared a condom.
Calvin Ndlovu (19) and Washington Msipha (20) from Esigodini are alleged to have stabbed the woman more than twice on her thigh and buttocks.
Matabeleland South police spokesperson Inspector Philisani Ndebele confirmed receiving a case of rape where the victim is said to have been stabbed.
“I can confirm that we received a case of rape where a woman was raped by two male adults and we have managed to arrest the two suspects,” he said.
Insp Ndebele also said: “I urge people to avoid moving alone at night, they should move in groups but as for this case it is unfortunate that they were in a group but others ran away and left their friend behind.”
The incident occurred last week when the woman and her friends were coming from their work place on their way home and they met the two men.
“The two men ambushed the three women and they started running leaving the victim behind and at the mercy of the two rapists who stabbed her on the thigh and buttocks before taking turns to rape her,” said Insp Ndebele.
He said on realising that her friends had left her, the woman tried to wriggle her way out of the situation but the two men joined forces, trapped and stabbed her on the thigh before allegedly raping her using one condom.
They left her unconscious and bleeding from the stab wounds and she only managed to regain her consciousness afterwards.
She then went and reported the incident to the police and was taken to hospital.
