Darlington suburb: From huge pythons to ghosts

Weekender Reporter
RESIDENTS of Darlington Extension suburb in Mutare claim to be encountering ghostly apparitions in their neighbourhood, prompting them to minimise night time movements.
The ghostly sightings, which have been reported for some time, are causing discomfort among residents.
The situation has been exacerbated by the discovery of large pythons inhabiting an anthill near residential areas.
Although no harm has been reported, residents are living in perpetual fear as the alleged ghosts are now a regular feature in the area.
A local resident, Lucky Machaka, attributed the ghostly presence to the area’s history.
Machaka claimed that some houses were built on top of graves, which could be the source of the ghosts.
“This was once Conte Farm, which had a compound for farm employees. People were buried here, but after independence, the compound was removed due to its proximity to Forbes Border Post,” he said.
Machaka explained that when the farm was converted into a residential area, no exhumations were performed, and as a result some homes were built on top of graves.
“We have had instances where human remains were discovered during foundation digging. I believe the ghosts are those of people whose graves were disturbed,” he said, further claiming to have encountered the said ghost multiple times.
“The ghost I have seen is a male figure, wearing a shiny black suit. I once greeted it, but it did not respond and erupted into a huge flame across the railway line,” he said.
Other residents, who spoke on condition of anonymity, corroborated the existence of ghosts in the area.
“We frequently see ghosts roaming around. Moving at night, especially on foot, is terrifying. You might be overtaken by a ghostly figure that bursts into a ball of fire,” said one of the residents.
