PLAYERS in the Bulawayo Metropolitan Province Darts Association League will use tonight’s games to prepare for provincial trials to be held at Bellevue Sports Club this weekend. Nine league matches have been lined up for tonight and the league’s organising secretary Lethukuthula Nkomo believes that players will give their best ahead of the weekend’s selection matches.
Nkomo said they would be selecting players to represent Bulawayo Metropolitan Province at a national competition which will be held during the Heroes Holidays in August.
“We are having preliminary trials at Bellevue Sports Club on Saturday and Sunday and we are calling all players to attend these selection games. Seeded players are also expected to attend in case we have few players coming for trials,” said Nkomo.
The seeded players are those who participated at the April competition which was held at Esigodini.
Most seeded players are from Old Nic Mine who are third on the Bulawayo Metropolitan Province Darts League log with 14 points from 16 matches, two behind log leaders Archers who have won all their matches.
Former national champions Ndumiso Tshuma, Moses Ndlovu, Godfrey Mazonde, Okay Sibanda, Maxmillion Taruvinga, Linesman Muronzvi and ex-Archers player Jackson Ndimande are part of the 16 Bulawayo Metropolitan Province’s seeded players from Old Nic Mine. The seven are expected to lead their team tonight when they take on Zimbabwe School of Mines in a league game.
Also making it for the seeded list are Nkomo, Albert Tawanda from championship favourites Archers, Wise waters’ Kerepatsi Mleya, Railstars’ quartet of Patrick Zimidzi, Boniface Maningi, Ndabezindle Ngwenya and McLean Chirwa.
Meanwhile, Archers are expected to take their unbeaten run to 17 matches when they take on prison outfit Khami at Khami Prison Complex tonight.
The log leaders cannot afford to relax as Railstars is breathing heavily on their neck and a loss tonight will see Njanji who take on struggling Zenzele at Portland Cement moving to 16 points with Archers.
“We are taking every game as it comes and the guys know that it’s not over until it’s actually over. We respect every club in the league but when it comes to playing we just want maximum points. Nothing will stop us and we are going for maximum points at Khami,” said Archers’ manager, Ernest ‘Maphepha’ Sibanda.
